He just went from a chaotic neutral to a chaotic good. And quite frankly, I can't wait to see more episodes where Discord and Fluttershy work of eachother.
If forced to choose, I would call past Discord more evil than good because he enjoyed creating chaos. But he still seemed like a chaotic neutral. This episode made me understand that he's not as evil as he is fulfilling his instinct for chaos. He was proud of being able to trick the main cast, as shown by his gloating and badass laughs. But he needed to trick the main cast in order to be free. He basically just did what he wanted without thinking about or caring how it affected others. With a friend he could be influenced to use his magic to create benign chaos (the dinner party had some weird furniture, but it was fun!). Besides, it's obvious he's going to retain his quirky nature. We're just not going to hear as many badass evil laughs. If he doesn't lose his character completely I'm perfectly fine with him being good.
As long as the other two stay evil. Nightmare Moon was gonna turn good whether we liked it or not. But Sombra and Chrysalis converting would be ridiculous. Sombra is a literal slave driver who made an entire empire disappear for a thousand years. He took many steps to ensure the Crystal Heart would be protected from the heroes. As for Chrysalis, she is lawful good for being a proper queen to her subjects. But she so clearly enjoyed the misery of others. Also, you can't expect her to change her appetite. She feeds off of love, therefore she is the nemesis of Cadance, who protects love. You could argue Celestia-Discord / Harmony-Chaos but I already think Discord was neutral in the first place.
I agree that it wasn't fanservice. If anything, it was an episode Fluttershy desperately needed. I personally think she was terrible in Season 3; an absolute regression into a stereotype. In this episode she was assertive to both her friends and Discord, and got pissed without the "instantly everyone bows down to me" switch she's been granted in Seasons 1 and 2. Basically she seemed more believable and respectable.
tl;dr: I support reformed Discord as well. Also, the description for this folder is lulz. Except I don't think the show is overrated, I think it's overhyped.
